The Teaching about Identities, Diversity, and Equity (TIDE) lab at NC State is dedicated to creating a theoretical framework for teaching about topics related to social identities, equity and inequality, and diversity in all forms. We apply the latest theories of learning, motivation, social identity, and intergroup relations to develop best practices for workshops, organizations, and courses in higher education. There is a heavy focus around critical consciousness.
Our framework is based on decades of research in psychology and education as well as the experiences of facilitators and students. While we collect data to continue our study, we are also building an online library of activities that teachers and workshop leaders can use.
