The Product Visualization course at NC State teaches students the fundamentals of industrial design sketching. At the end of the course, we created a display of student work. My notes from the class were featured in this display.

Instructor’s Remark:
Rebecca Ross just enrolled in the Track 3 Industrial Design Graduate Program this Fall. A few weeks into the Product Visualization class, I noticed her unique learning habit. She took a screenshot during the demonstration in the class, made visual notes on her drawings after feedback was provided, and made a research plan for each product sketching assignment.

Rebecca made 94 PAGES of notes for her sketching learning experience in three months. Self-learning takes a lot of discipline. I am not sure if the sky would be the limit to a woman like her.

Assignment: Design Anatomy

This practice is intended to give an in-depth analysis of existing products, use explanatory sketch as a tool to map out all the research findings, understand the reasons behind the scenes, give it a certain “depth” and a background story of the design process. Additionally, applying the drawing skills to conduct research will help to develop a habit of self-learning.
